Sardinia is one of only 3 places in the world where one may find the so called petrified trees dating from prehistory. Along the Riu Altana valley, 20 minutes from Valledoria are the remains of the Petrified Forest of Iscia (Perfugas) and of Carruca (Martis).
This territory is rich in fossils many of which are still buried in different degrees of deepness.
What is visible along the banks of Riu Altana are huge in size, some are hollow inside others are completely mineralised: all straight parts were transformed into rock into natural sculptural shapes.
